I really am not a fan of Open Office. However, I know much of it is I'm not quite used to it, maybe I will one day.
In writer, I made a newsletter. I always wanted to know how to make programs communicate more to the community, etc. It was kind of cool, even though it took me a while to do it.
In calc, I made a spreadsheet. This works like Excel.
In Impress, I made a powerpoint from the programs templates. This took me a little bit, however, not like the newsletter did.
